Well, I am proud to say that we are the new owners of an '07 Mazda3.
This whole car situation this week has been such a blessing in our lives. Monday we decided, after me having an emotional breakdown, that it was time to sell Loretta, so we got her cleaned up and posted her on KSL. Tuesday she was sold.
Wednesday we went up to Lehi and test drove the Mazda. It was so nice compared to the other cars we were looking at on KSL and had super low miles. I felt like we wouldn't end up getting the car because:
a. It was the first one we test drove
b. It was on the low end of our price range, so our monthly payment would be SO LOW
c. It was an '07 and only had 85,000 miles on it.
d. It was actually a cute car, not a piece of junk
We felt good during the test drive and told the people would could buy her tomorrow, we just needed to get it touch with the bank and finalize everything. We went home and made BLTs, though mine was just a B since that is the best part. We blessed the food and asked to know if this car was the right decision.
That is when the panic started. It did really seem too good to be true. All we wanted in a car was low mileage so we could travel more and air conditioning, which we had gone without for two years in Loretta. The previous owners were mechanics and had done really well keeping the Mazda in good condition. The reason she was so cheap is because she had some body issues, and with a car that young, it costs a butt load to fix. After the prayer, we both felt kind of meh about it. We let doubt and fear over come us, and fear and faith cannot exist at the same time.
What if someone else was supposed to have the car? What if everything the owners told us was just a bunch of crap? Would they let us take it to a mechanic? What if we couldn't get the loan we wanted? (that fear was ridiculous because pretty sure we went to the bank the next day and said, "We want a loan." and they replied, "Here you go." There wasn't any checking of our payment stubs or actual income. No wonder so many people are in debt!)
Later that night, we read scriptures and said our evening prayers. Again, we asked if this was the car we were supposed to have. The second Michael asked, we had our answer, we knew we found our new car that will get us through the next few years before we go on to the Peace Corp.
Thursday morning, we finalized the deal and celebrated by going to Kneaders. By 3 later that day, Michael had her cleaned up, registered, plates and all. She was officially ours.
Prayer is such an amazing thing!
Some may feel buying a car is a dumb thing to pray about. I, on the other hand, do not. I have big issues with getting into debt, even if it is a small amount of debt. I hate owing others anything and not being able to provide on our own as a family. I know that when we communicate with our loving Heavenly Father about the things we want or desire, He will bless us, even if it is a different way than what we were expecting.
Take the Mazda for instance. I think it is in my blood to hate Mazdas, Dodges, and Kias. Not that I had any experiences with any of those cars, I just down right do not like them. If I had been stubborn and passed up this great deal just because it was a Mazda, we would have been screwed. Heavenly Father humbled me to not care about the look of the car, but what the car could offer. Sorry if that is dumb, but it was a clouds opening in the sky moment for me.
Tithing is the greatest thing you can ever spend your money on. We have made some decisions in our marriage which has cut back our income significantly so that we can focus more on school and each other. It hasn't been easy and the budget has been somewhat tight, but we have consistently paid our tithing and our fast offerings. Last month, we had it piled up in cash on our table because of various reasons we were not able to turn it in right away. Had we kept that money, we would have had enough to cover our rent that was coming up and wouldn't have to stress about it. We have been able to have the mindset of by turning in our tithing, we will be blessed. I told Heavenly Father that we better be getting some blessings out of turning in that money, and we did. That sounds bratty and bossy, but it worked. Heavenly Father is so great!
Reading your scriptures blesses your lives. The past month or so, Michael and I have been much more consistent in reading our scriptures as a family. It makes such a difference in our day to day lives. I can tell when we haven't read yet and the affects it has.
Basically, this is to remind you to read your scriptures, say your prayers and pay your tithing. These Sunday School answers to life truly work, I don't know why sometimes we forget to do them.
The only issue we have now is figuring out a name for her. Thoughts?
