So the women in my family went down to Panguitch Utah for a Quilt Walkers Festival. I will go more into that later because that is just a long story, but I wanted to write down somewhere some stories that have been shared.
My Great Grandma Matheson was a spunky slash crazy woman. She grew up during the Depression and learned to be fruitful and bountiful on her own means which meant growing her own garden in her backyard in Utah. However, the garden soon outgrew her and Great Grandpa Matheson, so there often was surplus. Grandpa felt it was appropriate to share this bounty over the fence with the next door neighbor lady, which is a very, very nice thing to do. Grandma however felt that he was flirting with the neighbor lady, so as any reasonable lady would do, she burnt down the neighbor lady's kitchen, went into hiding for two weeks to be seen by no one, and then entered back into reality and acted as if nothing happened. Um. Awesome. Grandpa and Grandma did pay for the neighbor lady to get a new kitchen so in the end all is good.
My Great Great Great Great Great Great Grandma Matheson was another awesome lady. Her husband was one of the men who walked quilts over the snow from Panguitch to Parawon in order to get food to feed their community. Grandma Matheson was left to fend for herself and the children. One night an Indian came into the cabin and demanded flour. Food was low already and she still had babies to feed, and the Indian was kinda rude anyway just demanding her food that way, so she said no. The Indian demanded again, and she yelled for him to get out. He would not leave, and did I forget to mention she had a hot iron? And with that hot iron she proceeded to burn the Indian's butt, thus kicking him out of the house and keeping flour to feed her babies. Again, awesome.
I am me and this is where I come from.
Awesome.
